Next Saturday night, Saratoga speedway will be going from your
every day race car to high powered nascar like Katana Late models. The
Katana series has had 2 race events so far with there last race taking place
at Thunder mountain speedway in Williams Lake. The Katana series makes one
visit per year at Saratoga speedway and is one of our most highly
anticipated events of the season. This year the Katana's will be racing a
150 lap race instead of there usual 100 lap main event. The point standings
for the top 5 Katana's are as followed: 1st place #86 Tom Barrows with 152
points, 2nd #29 Brent Morris with 142 points, 3rd #5 Korbin Thomas with 138
points, 4th #57 Ken Jorgenson with 128 points, and 5th place #58 Bob Kuhn
with 110 points. As you can see the points race is very tight which always
makes for great racing so make sure to mark your calendars for this special
race event.
Saturday nights racing featured the Dwarf cars, Bomber cars,
Hornets and I.M.C.A modifieds. #4 Sean Sanger dominated the Dwarf car
division. Fast time went to #16 Gord Kraus with a time of 15.729 with Sanger
qualifying 3rd. The Dash went to Sanger and carried his winning to the heats
and he picked up wins in both of the heats. #8 Mike Schott led the 30 lap
main until lap 8 when Sanger took over the lead and went on to win his 4th
win of the night. 2nd in the main went to #16 Gord Kraus and 3rd to #11 Mike
Meeres. Sanger is proudly sponsored by Home Hardware.
The I.M.C.A modifieds made there 2nd visit this season. Fast
time was set by #91 Chris Beaulieu who set a new track record with a time of
15.796 beating the old track record of 15.805 set by #53 Kevin Noble. #98
Pat Brown picked up wins in both the dash and heat. The 20 lap main was led
by Brown until lap 6 when Beaulieu took over the lead and eventually go on
to win the main. 2nd place went to #53 Kevin Noble, and 3rd to #99 Tony
Johnson. Beaulie is proudly sponsored by DCD pile driving and island car
buyer.
The Bomber cars had a drop in cars on Saturday with 6 cars, but
it did not affect the great racing. Fast time went to #48 Stewart Lee with a
time of 17.659. The dash went to #11 Justin Beaulieu. The heat was won by
#72 Travis Stevenson who picked up his 2nd win in his bomber car. The 20 lap
main saw some tight racing between Lee and Stevenson with Lee getting the
advantage in the end and picked up the win with Stevenson 2nd, and #11
Justin Beaulieu 3rd.
The Hornet cars had there last race before a 2 week break. Fast
time went to #02 Daryl Cahill with a speedy time of 18.284. the C dash went
to #20 William Boyes, B dash went to #55 Trevor Dicus and the A dash went to
#01 Kevin Lawrenuk. 3 heat for the Hornets with the C heat going to #20
William Boyes, B heat going to #76 Bob Fraser in his newly painted Hornet
car, and A heat going to #88 Calvin Chamberlin. The 20 lap B main saw Boyes
lead until lap 8 when #09 Cameron Phillips made the pass in turn 4 to take
over the lead and eventually go on to win his first ever B main. 2nd went to
#59 Ted Dimitrov, and 3rd to #81 Jeremy Stormo. Phillips is proudly
sponsored South island imports. The 40 lap A main was one of the best Hornet
race of the year. #99 Chris Perkin came out and his new car and led the A
main for 27 laps until #07 Brandon Phillips passed him. On the last lap #02
Daryl Cahill got on the inside of Phillips but didn't have enough at the end
and Phillips won the A main by inches giving the 2 Phillips brothers the
wins in the main. 2nd went to #02 Daryl Cahill, and jostling on the last lap
gave #21 Gord Fraser 3rd. Phillips is proudly sponsored by South island
imports & domestics.
Extra laps.. Local bomber cars went to Victoria on Saturday with
#87 Brandon Steen winning the main. July 31/ August 1st will mark the return
of the Monster Trucks with 4 monster trucks making the show. Detail on the
monster truck our on the Saratoga speedway website. Accompanying the monster
trucks are the Crash to pass cars, Hornet cars, and the Roadrunner. Make
sure to mark your calendars for these race nights. The top 10 in points for

Cahill with 1888 points, 2nd #08 Daryn Cahill with 1441 points, 3rd #67
Corey Sanderson with 1412 points, 4th #07 Brandon Phillips with 1248 points,
5th #13 Jason Fraser with 1075 points, 6th #88 Calvin Chamberlin with 1029
points, 7th #01 Kevin Lawrenuk with 1019, 8th #84 Jake Townsend with 743
points, 9th #37 Brandon Steen with 677 and 10th #59 Ted Dimitrov with 675
points.
