Experienced driver #57 Ken Jorgenson picked up another Katana late model main event victory at Saratoga speedway posting back to back wins at Saratoga. The Katana night was kicked off with a new track record being set by #14 Brandon Carlson with a time of 15.288 beating the old track record which was previously held by Jorgenson which was a time of 15.360. The 2, 12 lap heats saw 3 lead changes in the B heat win the advantage eventually going to #33 Dave Hemrich as he went on to win the B heat. The A heat saw #5 Dave Key take the green, White and checkered in the lead as he went on to win the A heat. The 150 lap main event saw 5 lead changes with #17 Mike Haslam leading the first 18 laps until #33 Dave Hemrich took over the lead in turn 4. With Hemrich leading, the faster cars started making there way up the field with #29 Brent Morris eventually taking over the lead on lap 29. Morris led the race until the 75 lap break to refill and get drinks, but during the break Morris went into the pits relinquishing the lead to #16 Rory Smith. Smith led until lap 92 when Jorgenson finally took over the lead and eventually went on to lead 58 laps to win the 150 lap main event with #14 Brandon Carlson 2nd, #86 Tom Barrows 3rd, #52 Geoff Morris 4th, and #5 Dave Key 5th. The Bomber cars made there 3rd appearance in arrow with a field of 8 cars. Fast time went #99 Gilles Cyr with a time of 17.953. The dash went to #87 Brandon Steen. The heat saw #48 Stewart Lee take the lead on lap 1 and never looked back and went on to win the heat. #72 Travis Stevenson led the 30 lap main twice. Stevenson led the first 10 laps until #90 Johnny Zeneti took over the lead. Lap 18 saw Zeneti’s car mechanically fail giving the lead back to Stevenson and eventually he went on to win the main with #74 Rob Gaudreault 2nd and #99 Gilles Cyr 3rd. The I.M.C.A modifieds made there 2nd appearance in arrow with a good field of 5 cars. Fast time went to #91 Chris Beaulieu with a time of 15.835. The dash went to #99 Tony Johnson and he picked up a win in the first heat. The inverted heat was led by #98 Pat Brown from flag to flag as he picked up the win in the invert heat. The 20 lap main saw #99 Tony Johnson prove his Dominance as he led the main from lap 1-20 as he picked up his first main event win of the year with #91 Chris Beaulieu 2nd and #98 Pat Brown 3rd. Extra Laps…… Speed is the Buzz around Saratoga with the Sprint cars making an appearance next week. Accompanying the Sprints are the Wilroc lites, bomber cars and I.M.C.A modifieds. The Sprint cars made an appearance at Western speedway on Saturday with the main event win going to #66 Kyle Vangreight. The top 5 in points for the Sprint cars are: 1st place #92 Jeff Bird with 339 points, 2nd place #44 Scott Auman with 316 points, Auman is also a locally owned car with all his sponsors coming out of Campbell River. 3rd place is #91 Darren Yates with 313 points, 4th place is #42 Guy Barrett with 308 points and 5th place is #15 Rob Scott with 293 points. The Sprint car class suffered a great lose as Driver #12 Tony Menard passed away on Monday. Menard was the owner and president of VMAC and in his spare time raced Sprint cars. Menard leaves behind his former wife Deborah and his 2 kids. The Sprint cars usually average 10-15 cars and the lights keep going up in numbers so make sure to mark your calendars for this special event.
