The Wilroc sprint cars roared through Saratoga speedway for a great night of racing on Saturday with the Wilroc Lites, bomber cars, and the I.M.C.A Modifieds. The Wilroc series made there first visit to the track on 2010 schedule and had a great field of cars with 9 Sprint cars and 10 lite cars. The 2 classes will be back again on July 24 and the Lites only on August 7.
The Bomber car division raced there 2nd race of the year with one already being rained out. Fast time went to #48 Stewart Lee with a time of 17.715. The dash went to #99 Gilles Cyr. 4 heats were up next for the bombers with two of them inverts. The Bomber B heat was led by #71 Kermit Dahl until an altercation on the front stretch gave away the lead to #72 Travis Stevenson on lap 8 and he never looked back. The Bomber A heat was led by #11 Justin Beaulieu as he led for the green, white and checkered and won his first race of the 2010 season. The bomber B invert was also led green, white, and checkered by 1 car #5 Darren “bam bam” Larson as he also won his first race of the 2010 season. The pattern continues into the Bomber A invert as #48 Stewart Lee moved up into first on lap 1 and never looked back as he won the last heat of the night. The 40 lap main was a great showing of racing talent. #5 Darren Larson led until lap 7 when #72 Travis Stevenson caught him on turn 4 to take over the lead. He would lead the race until lap 20 when #24 Charlie Ackerman passed him on turn 1 to take over the lead. An unexpected rain shower hit the track causing the main to be cut short to 30 laps giving the win to #24 Charlie Ackerman with #48 2nd, and #87 Brandon Steen 3rd. #24 is proudly sponsored by Ackerman contracting.
The I.M.C.A Modifieds made there first visit to the track this year with there first race getting rained out. Fast time went to #91 Chris Beaulieu with a time of 15.864. The dash went to #48 Rob Ryan. 2 heats in the Modified division made for some good racing with the first heat being led by #98 Pat Brown until lap 6 when #48 Rob Ryan caught him on the backstretch to take over the led and eventually go on to take the win. The invert heat was led by #99 Tony Johnson from lap 1 to lap 8 as he went on to win the modified invert. The main was a 20 lap feature with #98 Pat Brown leading most of the race until lap 15 when #91 Chris Beaulieu used the old inside outside Beaulieu move to take over the lead and never looked back as he went on to win the modified main with #98 2nd, and #53 Kevin Noble 3rd. #91 is proudly sponsored by DCD pile driving and island car buyer.com.
The Wilroc Lites made there first visit to the track this year bringing out a great field of 10 cars. Fast time went to #52 Jesse Dardengo with a time of 14.862. The dash went to #28 Wayde Heckford, 4 heats for the Lites with 2 of them being inverts. The Lite B heat was led by #7 Mark Gall for all 8 laps as he went on to win the Lite B heat. The Lite A also saw a leader lead all 8 laps as #5 Marc Parkinson won the A heat. The Lite B invert saw local driver #91 Eli Ross move up to 1st on lap 1 and never look back as he wont his first ever race at Saratoga speedway. The Lite A invert saw #37 Richard Lejeune also move up into 1st on lap 1 and he never looked back as he won the last heat of the night for the Lites. The 25 lap main event saw all 10 cars hit the track making for some good racing. #7 Mark Gall led the first 4 laps until #28 Wayde Heckford passed him on turn 1 to take over the lead. A caution on lap 15 saw #52 Jesse Dardengo and #10 Steven Dardengo get into each other in turn 1 taking them out the running for the win. Off the restart Heckford starting pulling away from Lejeune and went on to win the main with #37 2nd and #7 3rd. #28 is proudly sponsored by Heavy metal mechanical.

The dash went to locally owned and sponsored car #44 Scott Aumen. 4 heats for the Sprint cars made for some great racing. The Sprint B heat was led by #94 Merv Barcello until lap 6 when #2 Randy “the floor man” Vincent passed him in turn 3 to go on to win the Sprint B. The Sprint A heat was led by #15 Rob Scott for the green, white, and checkered as he won the Sprint A heat. The Sprint B invert was led by #12 Tony Menard for all 8 laps as he won his first race at Saratoga speedway. The Sprint A invert was led by #44 Scott Aumen for all 8 laps as he went on to win the Sprint A invert. With rain in the air the main was cut to 25 laps. #94 Merv Barcello led the first 7 laps until #44 Scott Aumen proved his dominance in the class as he passed 2 cars on turn 4 to take the lead and to eventually go on to win his first ever main event win after 3 championship seasons at Saratoga Speedway in the sprint car division with #42 Guy Barrett 2nd, and #7 Mark Fisher 3rd. #44 is proudly and locally sponsored by Grant signs, Kal tire, CR lawyers and many other local and great sponsors. His car will always be on display on race days at one of his local sponsors in Campbell River.
Extra laps….. Sprint car #94 Merv Barcello came all the way from Edmonton, Alberta to join us for the race night. Local Stock car driver #66 Larry Graham was racing in Victoria on Saturday, he set fast time of 18.737, and won there 100 lap feature, great job Larry! The Sprint cars average 700 horse power and lap times of 13.3 seconds! Sprint car #44 is locally owned and sponsored with a great driver racing it for them; he likes to thank all of his sponsors for making this possible. Next week June 19 will the Car tossing competition with the Crash to pass, Hornets, Roadrunners, and making there first visit to the track this year are the Island mini stocks so mark your calendars for this special event.
