The always exciting and action filled Crash to pass boat race highlighted a great 2 nights of racing at Saratoga Speedway over the long holiday weekend.
Saturday night featured the Boat race with the hornets and roadrunners and Sunday night’s action saw once again all three classes from Saturday featuring the crash to pass cars, hornets, and roadrunners. The next scheduled boat race is on August 14 with the 2nd annual bikini contest, hornet cars, roadrunners, and figure 8’s.
The Hornet cars saw another track record broken with a amazing time of 18.383 set by #02 Daryl Cahill beating the old track record of 18.542. the 32 car field was broken into 3 dashes with the C dash going to #20 William Boyes, The B dash going to #81 Jeremy Stormo which was his first ever win at the speedway, and the A dash going to #07 Brandon Phillips. As in the dashes, there were also three heat races. The C heat saw #2 Marilyn Douville take the lead on lap 2 and never look back as she won the C heat. The B heat saw #99 Chris Perkins hold onto the lead until #84 Jake Townsend caught him on the backstretch to take the lead and he never looked back as he won the B heat. The A heat was led by #15 Lane Pearson until lap 6 when #02 Daryl Cahill took the lead to eventually win the A heat. The B main was a 25 lap race with #44 Harley Robinson leading until lap 5 when #20 William Boyes passed Robinson for the lead, but the real battle was for 2nd and 3rd with 3 different cars; #14 Kyle Fallowfield, #33 Tristin Gait, and #42 Jordan Phillips with #14 eventually taking 2nd with 33 in 3rd but the real winner was #20 William Boyes as he went on to win his 2nd straight B main. The A main saw 22 cars take to the track for a 50 lap A main. #93 Jake Johnson was leading the race when a caution came out on lap 2 involving #40 Dave Erdman, and #88 Calvin Chamberlin. Johnson led until lap 4 when #67 Cory Sanderson took over the lead. Back in the field #02 Daryl was falling way back in 2nd and #07 Brandon Phillips in 3rd, in the end #67 led 46 laps to win his first ever A main event with #02 in 2nd and #07 in 3rd. #67 is proudly sponsored by Courtenay auto supply.
Sunday night’s action saw once again all three classes from Saturday featuring the crash to pass cars, hornets, and roadrunners. The Hornets once again had a great car count with 32 cars hitting the track. Fast time on the night was set by #21 Gord Fraser as he set a time of 18.500. Just like Saturday night, the class was broken into 3 dashes with the C dash going to #66 Mitch Lesopoy, B dash going to #42 Jordan Phillips, and the A dash going to #02 Daryl Cahill. 6 heat races were on the schedule for the night. What the officials did was they took the order of the finish for the C, B, and A heats races and reversed them to make inverted line-ups for another 3 heats race. The first C heat saw #20 William Boyes take the lead early and never look back as he went on to win the C heat. The B heat saw #84 Jake Townsend jump out to an early lead to eventually win the B heat. The A heat saw #01 Kevin Lawrenuk start in first position which gave him an advantage as he went on to lead all 10 laps to win the A heat. The inverted C heat saw #6 James Fleming jump from 3rd to 1st on the first turn to eventually win the inverted C heat. The inverted B heat also saw a leader lead all 10 laps as #76 Bob Fraser went on to win the inverted B heat. The inverted A heat saw #21 Gord Fraser jump out to an early lead and eventually he went on to win the inverted A heat. The B main saw 14 cars hit the track, #88 Calvin Chamberlin jumped out to an impressive lead as he stretched away from the rest of the pack to eventually go on to lead 22 laps and win his First B main on the year with #84 in 2nd, and #59 Ted Dimitrov in 3rd, Calvin is proudly sponsored by M&M’s. The A main saw 18 cars hit the track for a 40 lap feature race, car #9 Andrew Buchanan lead the race until lap 7 when #02 Daryl Cahill passed him on the backstretch to take over the lead and to eventually go on to win the A main with #67 Cory Sanderson a close 2nd, and #21 Gord Fraser in 3rd. The Roadrunner class brought a field of 6 cars with #28 James Buchanan setting fast time with a time of 19.420. The dash was won by #28 James Buchanan for a quick 4 laps. The heat saw all 6 cars in a 10 lap race. #11 Derrik Senft led the race until lap 6 When #28 James Buchanan caught him in turn 4 to take the lead and never look back as he goes 2/2 on the night. The main also saw all 6 cars come out for a 15 lap main. #40 Cam Edward was having a great race, leading 8 laps until once again #28 James Buchanan caught him going into turn 1 to take the lead and never looked back as he won main event winning all 3 races he was in on the race night with #40 in 2nd and #10 Allias Parker in 3rd. #28 is also proudly sponsored by island car buyer.
Sunday night saw an improvement in car count with 10 cars showing up for the night’s action. Fast time was set by #77 Hans Baan with a time of 19.159. The dash went to #11 Derrik Senft. The heat saw #28 James Buchanan jump out to an early lead passing his son #9 Andrew Buchanan and eventually going on to win the heat. The main event saw #18 William Robertson lead 10 laps until #28 James Buchanan caught up to him and pass him going through turn 4 and eventually going on to win the main with #77 Hans Baan in 2nd, and #18 in 3rd. The Crash to pass cars brought out a great field of 6 cars come out for the race night with #13 Tom Dunn setting fast time for the night, which was a time of 19.341. The dash saw #13 Tom Dunn lead the whole race and take the win. The heat race saw #77 'Mr. Excitement' Mark Stephens lead the race until lap 5 when he was spun out by #13 Tom Dunn and eventually Dunn went on to win the heat. The main was a exciting 20 lap race with #13 tom Dunn having a great race as he led the first 10 laps of the race until a 'popcorn” yellow came out on lap 11 eventually giving the lead to #8 Brad Kotscherofski and he never looked back as he won his second straight main event with #2 Glenn Pinto in 2nd, and #13 Tom Dunn in 3rd. #8 is proudly sponsored by fountain tire and CR springs. The Boat race was a very exciting race with 11 cars taking there boats to the track. The field had lots of different cars with 5 Crash to pass cars, 3 Hornets, and 3 Roadrunners. In the end it came down to 2 cars #11 Craig Gagne and #71 Dwayne Zeinstra with #11 having much more boat as he won the first boast race of the 2010 racing season.
Sunday night’s action saw all same 6 cars take to the track. Fast time was set by #2 Glenn Pinto which was a time of 19.426. The dash went to 38 Brad Kotscherofski. The 10 lap heat race saw #2 Glenn Pinto lead 5 laps until #8 Brad Kotscherofski spun him out to take over the lead and to eventually go on to win the heat. The main was a 20 lap feature with all 6 cars taking to the track. #13 Tom Dunn led the first 10 laps until he lost a tire on the front stretch giving the lead to #2 Glenn Pinto which Pinto would never give up as he won the main event with #7 Jamie Pinto in 2nd, and #77 'Mr. Excitement' Mark Stephens taking 3rd.
Extra laps.. Saturday and Sunday night saw 8 new cars come out in all different classes.. 7 of our local bomber cars went to Western speedway on Saturday night saw #99 Gilles Cyr setting a new track record with a fast time of 19.487, #87 Brandon Steen winning the A heat, #11 Justin Beaulieu winning the B heat, and the big winner was Steen as he won the 50 lap main event, with #99 Gilles Cyr in 2nd, great job boys!........ May 29th is our next race night featuring the bomber cars, hornets and making there first appearance this season the I.M.C.A modifieds.
